Welcome to the Research and Development Center for Indonesian Natural Products (RDCINP). The center was founded on 20 May 2020 under Vidya Mandhala Foundation, Act No. AHU-0003272.AH.01.04.2016 dated 20-01-2016 by Ministry of Law and Human Right, Republic of Indonesia. The RDCINP consists of two divisions, Research Division and Development Division, to search, develop and commercialize potentially useful Indonesian natural products. The center is academic research and development entity devoted to the discovery and development of fragrance, pharmaceutical products and natural bio-pesticides based on the amazing diversity of tropical Indonesian natural products.
As we know that Indonesia’s rainforests are home to some of the highest levels of biological diversity in the world. Many sources credit Indonesia as the most species rich country on earth. Spread over 17,845 tropical islands on the equator, Indonesia contains the world’s third largest area of rainforest after the Amazon and Africa’s Congo Basin. Indonesia’s forests have a diversity of plants equaled only in Amazon. Of the 250,000 species of higher plants known to exist on earth, 40,000 of them are medicinal plants and 30,000 species are to be found in the tropical region of Indonesia. Many of these tropical plants have been employed as medicines by the indigenous people in both rural and urban areas. However, only a relatively small amount of them have been thoroughly studied for all aspects of their potential therapeutic value in medicine. Moreover, this tropical country known as the world’s largest archipelagic country with 81,000 km of coastline is worldwide recognized as being the richest in the world in term of diversity of marine organisms. Indonesian coral reefs in particular have the highest biodiversity in the world, forming the center of high diversity of marine organisms. This extraordinary biodiversity offers huge opportunities and challenges for discovery of new secondary metabolites which might be very useful from both scientific and biomedical perspectives.
RDCINP collaborates with natural products agroindustry, academia, government, and pharmaceutical industry to create natural products that can be used to improve human health such as natural drinks, dietary supplements, aromatherapy, perfumes, natural hand sanitizers, pharmaceuticals and bio-pesticides. In addition to product development prospects, RDCINP is the ideal organization for reference materials and research needs based on it is cooperation with regulatory agencies in decision-making, association with industry both national and international level networking, formal agreements with material sourcing partners and unique resources.
